Do you have a project, assignment or goal that seems way too big?
Or way too overwhelming or too scary?
Or out of your comfort zone or beyond your skills?

You know which one I mean.
It’s the one you have been postponing.
Or the one that seems like a dream that is just beyond your reach.
Or the one you really really want, but just don’t have the time for.

Maybe it’s a story you have always wanted to write
or a product you want to sell
or a photo album you want to create
or a messy closet that needs to be cleaned.
You have stared at the metaphoric canvas and said, “Where do I start???!!”
Likely, the Inner Critic jumps in with a series of reasons why you should NOT start.

You CAN start by chunking it down.
This means breaking it down into little manageable pieces,
so that you can take one little tiny step at a time.
At first, don’t worry or even think about the results.
Just focus on taking that one tiny step . . . on doing that one tiny action.
The first step is often the hardest.

For me, a key–and fun part– is setting a timer for 5 minutes and “going for it” for just 5 minutes.

Write for 5 minutes.
Brainstorm your product for 5 minutes.
Sort photos or pull clothes off hangers for 5 minutes.

Each time you finish one 5 minute chunk,
you will be
rewarded with a dose of dopamine.
It’s a feeling of accomplishment and sometimes even triumph.

You can add to the reward with a square of chocolate, a 1 minute meditation or whatever turns you on. (My sister used to eat one M&M.)

Another trick is to make your chunk time as enjoyable as possible.
Listen to favorite music.
Or brew your favorite tea.
Or wear a crown.
Once while tackling a task, I hung up a sign “Are we having fun yet?” and texted a photo to my accountability partner.
While wearing silly sunglasses.

Can you sense that chunking it down is
a way to love yourself?
It is.
It’s a very practical #lovemap.
Using chunking, I recently finished some legal paperwork that I had been dreading.

I am so curious how it will work for you!
